40 Days of Prayer Day 14 "We Are the Light of the World"

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5: 14 – 16 RSV).

“For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true)” (Ephesians 5: 8, 9 RSV)

Heavenly Father, You have commanded us to be light in this world, but You are the source of our flame. Place us where we may burn brightly for You, as one of a multitude of Your lights, and bolster our spirit when ill winds try to extinguish our flame.  May Your truth and love comfort us in good times and bad; in plenty and want; with companions, and in solitude. Help us light the paths of others seeking Your presence.
