40 Days of Prayer Day 5 "Follow Me"
“I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then He said to him, “Follow Me!” (John 21:18-19 NIV).
Father God, I want to live my life to glorify You in everything I do, like Peter. Help me to glorify you, even in death. Lord God, today I want to die to self and live for Christ (Galatians 2:20) that I might live a life honoring to You, a life that glorifies You. So often I do things in my own strength; I dress myself and go where I want to go. I live too much in the kingdom of this world, to which I no longer belong, instead of living in Your Kingdom.
Father God, in the name of Jesus, remove my desire to live for this world and replace it with a love for You with an unquenching “hunger and thirst” (Matthew 5:6) to desire and serve Jesus; to live for You and only You. Give me a love for Jesus that requires “all my heart and all of my soul and all of my mind and all of my strength” (Mark 12:30). Jesus, tell me Your truth about my “self”. Expose my pride, my sin, my rebellion against You. I will fall on my knees with humility and thanksgiving in my heart and give You all the praise and glory. Lord Jesus, I want to follow You just as You commanded Peter when You said, “Follow Me!”. Jesus, You loved Peter so tenderly in John 21. Thank You for loving me. Jesus, it is in Your precious name I pray. Amen
