Africa Day 6
Today we travelled from Uganda to Kenya. We will stay in Kenya until the end of our trip. The travel was without incident. Traffic in Nairobi is pretty bad. But it has an upside. It teaches you patience.
After landing we drove for several hours. I knew that we were going to do ministry, but I didn’t know where or how. It began to rain, which is blessing in this dry part of the world. We ate a quick dinner at a fast-food restaurant in the early evening. And then in the dark and rain we drove into a small community of nice houses and all got out of the two vans in front of a modest, well-maintained home. We were met by two Canadians, Brenda and Gary. They are both missionaries serving in Kenya for years. Their ministry has grown into multiple endeavors including a school, a crafts business where they have women in the local slum making beautiful crafts that are then sold, plus a few other initiatives.
Our team was ushered into a small room in the house. In the room were about 15 Kenyans, men and women, mostly young (say under 30) and a few older. They were worshiping powerfully in a room about 20 by 25 feet in dimension. The Spirit of God was all over the room. I had stepped out of a dark and rainy night into the Kingdom of God.
What an evening. We pushed back the furniture in the room, lined up chairs around the perimeter of the room, and Dr. Dennis began to minister to each person. So much power released. We saw a young woman delivered from a spirit that caused her to writhe like a snake on the floor. Young men were set free from spirits of rejection and unworthiness. The team pitched in where we were needed and the Kenyans laid hands on their brothers and sisters as Dennis directed.
We were ministering in a small house church. Two of the members of our team have house churches in their home towns. Both had experienced similar release of power and freedom in their churches.
It was a really powerful night of worship. God was glorified, we called upon the name and blood of Jesus for about 3 hours. As we were leaving Brenda thanked me. The ministry had reached a difficult place, she told me. This evening was a great encouragement to them and gave them strength to keep pushing ahead. What a blessing it was to serve and encourage our brothers and sisters on the front lines. Thank you, Jesus, for this opportunity to be used by You like this.
Tomorrow we have a long road trip.
Thanks for your prayers. Please pray for the health of each team member. Some are a bit under the weather. Pray for God’s Spirit to remain strong in us and for Him to continue to release rivers of living water into the lives of those whom He has called us to.
Grace and peace,
John
